How velvet plants blossomed and transformed Vanessa Lazzari's life and career.

“I’ve always loved plants. I tried to have them all over the house—but, in everyday life, they didn’t survive. One day, while putting another one in the yard, I had a sudden inspiration: what if I grew my own plants? That’s how the first ones were born, from scraps of fabric, persistence, and imagination.”— Vanessa Lazzari

Before urban jungles dominated interior design, Vanessa Lazzari already lived surrounded by greenery. But the artist, who lives in Garibaldi (RS), discovered that her love for plants would go far beyond gardening — and would transform into art.

In an interview with UOL, Vanessa explained that the idea for the velvet plants stemmed from a daily frustration: natural plants didn't survive indoors. From this dissatisfaction came the invention. "I gathered fabrics, wires, scraps and started testing shapes. The first one was so-so, the second one better, and the third... became love," she recalls.

From this experimentation, the Plantae collection was born, composed of handmade botanical sculptures in easy-clean velvet, with flexible stems and designs inspired by real species — such as banana trees, bird of paradise flowers, monstera deliciosa, and snake plants.

Today, the pieces from Vanessa Lazzari Creative Studio travel from the interior of Rio Grande do Sul to the world, bringing color, texture, and a new concept of nature: nature that is born from the hands.

Each plant is handcrafted by Vanessa and two collaborators. Custom orders take approximately 30 days to produce, revealing the organic rhythm of the manual work—the time required for creation, patience, and presence.

More than a design story, it's a story of new beginnings and reconnection: a reminder that beauty also flourishes when we have the courage to change course.
